Crystal structures of transition metal compounds
(Dr. Mautner)
-
In collaboration with Prof. Goher (Kuwait University and
Alexandria University, Egypt), crystal structures of transition metal complexes
are investigated.

Structural chemistry of azides
(Dr. Mautner)
-
Crystal structures of metal azido compounds are examined
in collaboration with Profs. Goher and Maasoud (Alexandria University, Egypt).

Molecular magnetic materials
(Dr. Mautner, Dr. Abu-Youssef)
-
Within the framework of a bilateral Austrian-Spanish cooperation with Profs. Escuer and Vicente
(Barcelona University, Spain), coordination compounds that are of interest
as molecular magnetic materials
are characterized structurally and magnetically.

High and low temperature X-ray powder diffraction,
structure investigations of polycrystalline materials
(Dr. Bitschnau)
-
Phase transitions and temperature dependencies are studied, e.g.
for piezo materials and high temperature super conductors,
using a number of powder diffraction systems that are equipped
for different temperature ranges between 11 K and 2000°C.
High temperature X-ray powder equipment is actively developed in
cooperation with the Anton Paar GmbH.
The capabilities for determination and refinement of crystal structures
via powder techniques have been considerably expanded in the recent
years and successfully applied to a diversity of materials, including
minerals, organic compounds, and guest-host-systems.
